Learning about AIDS and its growth was very useful information. I went into this class thinking it would just be another bacc core to cover a specific credit, but I am coming out a much more informed individual. I am glad after taking this course and have learned a lot. I believe it is very important to have this course taught at the university letter. Looking into the future however, I can see that it is going to be something that will most likely need to be taught in high schools. HIV/AIDS is targeting younger victims every year and we must teach them the information they need to make responsible decisions and protect themselves.
I didn't find any of this information really useless. I found it hard to focus on the science and microbiology of the disease, however I feel it is useful information to understanding how the disease attacks and grows within the body. I don't really see anything that should be changed. I enjoyed the course much more than I thought I would and am very happy I took it. I did more than just fill a bacc core credit. I informed myself on a huge issue that will most likely have a great impact of the future.

I also agree that this course offered much more than I had expected! I didn't realize that there was that much to know about sexually transmitted diseases. I also had a hard time focusing on the microbiology part of the course. However, I am still glad that it was covered because it was helpful to visualize and really understand what was going on.
ReplyDeleteThe importance of education especialy in a university system can not be overlooked. It was very important for us to take this class and learn about prevention and treatment when it comes to AIDS and STI's. I need to encourage everyone I know to not miss the opportunity to learn vital information that will help them in their lives.

I also enjoyed learning about the unethical studies in the past! I never knew that that even happened and am truly happy that I know about them now. It gives me a greater understanding to why people react the way they do. You make a good point about having this class being taught at the high school level because people are becoming sexually active younger and younger these days.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with, i was in the same boat, i thought that this was gonna just be like any other bacc core class was also plesently surprised about this class. I really enjoyed this class the subjects that we covered. It is very important for individuals ,especially those of college age that are sexually active, to know what the risks are and how to help prevent getting AIDS and STDs as well with what to do after you get them. Great class.

Haha Kayla, you and I wrote pretty much the same thing! I too came away with a lot more than I had expected, which is always a pleasant surprise. The unethical studies of the past are something I think we should all be aware of, and I am surprised more of us did not know about them. And I agree with what you said about the younger kids... kids are having sex so early now, and are putting themselves at risk for HIV/AIDS and other STI's. I do think that all this should be taught to younger kids, and I am also very glad they are teaching us old kids (hehehe). I'm happy you seemed to enjoy the class as much as I did!
